Learning Support

Did you know that all students have access to Academic Skills Support?

If you need help with assignment writing, referencing, time management, or any other academic-related aspect of your studies, we can help! Our mission is to help you become successful, independent learners. The workshops are not remedial; they are not for students who can’t but for those who want to increase the quality of their education. The workshops are free to all students.

How do I access Academic Skills support?

It’s easy... both face-to-face and online students can make an appointment by clicking on the right hand side of this page. You can also drop by the library to speak to Kate, or send her an email at khoran@laureate.net.au

Appointment times:

30 minute appointments are available on Wednesdays and Fridays. Click the button to the right to book an appointment with Kate or contact Student Services if you have any difficulty.

What about the workshops?

Our workshops explore a range of skills necessary for academic study in Australia, including:

* Time management

* Features of academic language

* Research and note-taking skills

* Report and essay writing

* Referencing (APA 6th Edition or Harvard)

* Paraphrasing skills

* Exam techniques

You don’t need to book. Just come along. View the workshop schedule

Academic skills on Blackboard

This is available to all students on our learning portal. It covers academic writing, critical thinking, referencing and more. This will be available once you have enrolled in your subjects for the study period. You’ll find everything on Blackboard under Student Resources.

Academic or support appointments with Program Managers are available by request. In these appointments you can get advice and guidance on academic issues and advice on your pathway and progression through your course.

You can arrange an appointment by emailing your Program Manager directly, refer to the contacts page for email addresses.

Learning at a Higher Education institution is about discovering new knowledge through reading and research, so knowing how to navigate your way around the library is essential.

You can access the library via the left side menu here on the Melbourne Online Student Hub. Through the library you can access a comprehensive collection of full-text articles and eBooks 24/7.

To make studying and researching easier, the library provides regular training sessions as well as guides and library skills advice on the library website.

One of the first classes you are enrolled in is called Essential Learning Skills - this class is not graded and is a useful introduction to online learning and the academic skills.

Learning with Technology is another useful space that will help you learn how to navigate Blackboard. You can find the link on your Blackboard home page under the 'My Organisations' heading.
